The Others: Poster analysis.

The darkness to this poster is iconic in horror films as darkness and fear are usually associated as all scary things often come out of the dark. This is linked to the fear of the unknown. The light used in this poster is an old lantern contextualising this film to a period of time. The colour of the light has a yellow/orange glow to it again adding to the horror as it symbolises fire. The fearful look on Nicole Kidman's face also produces horror as she too is scared allowing the audience to prepare to be scared themselves. The tag line 'sooner or later they will find you' stimulates fear as it gives the audience an idea that they can't hide from what ever evil may be presented in this film. The white writing on top of the darkness draws attention to the title of the film, who is staring in it as well as the credits. This therefore promotes and advertises the film which is the soul purpose of the poster.
